“Coaching is much bigger than coaching. Coaches are at the forefront of a way of being that the whole world needs to get to, where the core theme is compassion for all people and caring for all of nature and for our only home.”
Sir John Whitmore
The International Coach Federation (ICF) not for profit arm is the ICF Foundation which exists to promote social progress. The ICF Foundation shared vision is that coaching is an integral part of a thriving society.
What does this mean and how can coaching achieve meaningful progress in this time of exceptional global challenge and opportunity?
Coaches have an urgent and essential role to play at this critical moment in history.
So why is this? Coaching relationships help to bridge the gap between what is seen as possible, under current scenarios, and what is needed to achieve the thriving society.
The ICF Foundation mission is to connect and equip professional coaches and organisations to accelerate and amplify impact on social progress through coaching.
We choose to partner for global impact but how will we focus all our efforts?
The Ignite initiative – engaging humanity through education – is part of the ICF Foundation’s long term strategy to advance social progress through coaching by aligning with the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the United Nations. The 17 SDGs focus on a thriving society and flourishing of nature and represent the most ambitious effort in human history. 193 countries have signed up to the goals and the result will shape life conditions for generations to come.
Delivering the goals is a joint project for humanity in the twenty first century where our global coaching community can be a force of nature helping to change the course of history.
The ICF has 32,000 members in 148 countries. The ICF Foundation is working in partnership, to deliver SDG #4 Education, connecting coaches and partner organisations to work together for greater impact by demonstrating that coaching works by building capacity, accelerating and amplifying results. The ICF envision a future where coaching is built into projects to achieve each and all of the 17 goals because it makes sense. As momentum grows, we imagine that through leadership of coaches and partner organisations, billions of dollars of social progress and international development project funding will include coaching services as a recognised accelerator and amplifier of social change.
